Crushed over that family trip you were supposed to take to Italy? Explore the Sistine Chapel closer to home.
It’s 2021, but travel is still strongly advised against as we are in the tail-end of the pandemic, but that’s alright. Mall of America knows how much we all need a little art and culture these days so they’ve opened an elegant and cultural experience sure to wow you, even if you’ve already seen the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel Exhibit is located at the 2nd floor, North Atrium with only two weeks left to go!
Guests can take a stroll through the exhibit that highlights the frescos Michelangelo painted across the ceiling column of the Apostolic Palace in Rome, Italy. Painted between 1508 and 1512, the fresco style of the painting makes the work, over time, integrate with the surface it’s painted on. Later, he finished another portion called, The Last Judgement, between 1535 and 1541.

The Mall of America is set up in long columns with canvas stands of the Sistine Chapel’s paintings along each side, making a hallway of artwork that visitors can get close and personal with in a way not possible at the original site. Choose to observe in silence or use the accompanying audio to guide your way.
Mall of America is doing what they can to observe safety rules and guidelines, so bring a mask and keep distance from your fellow art lovers.
