Candlelight Pride: Celebrating Queer Musical Icons
We are all familiar with the showstopping star quality of artists like Lil Nas X and Sam Smith, however, composers like Tchaikovsky and Fanny Mendelssohn are significant figures that were judged by either their sexuality or gender. Celebrate queer musical icons of the past and present at this one-of-a-kind concert. Coinciding with the multiple festivities planned for Pride Month, this show is another way of honoring this year’s theme of “The Fight Continues”.
On June 23, the classically-trained string quartet will serenade guests with performances of well-known hits and compositions, including “Your Song” by Elton John, “Thinkin Bout You” by Frank Ocean, “The Story” by Brandi Carlisle, and more. Experience an enchanting tribute to some of the most influential artists and composers that have raised awareness for the LGBTQ+ community.
Candlelight at St Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral
Designated as Cathedral came in 1941 after almost a century of serving the community. St Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral was at the center of the church’s 1976 General Convention in Minneapolis which saw women being officially accepted for ordination to the priesthood. General Convention came to St Mark’s for a third time in 2003 for the ratification of Gene Robinson as the church’s first openly gay bishop. We can’t think of a better place for celebrating progress.
Although you will not be seeing the modern-day influential artists in the flesh, the power of their music will be captured just the same by the Listeso String Quartet. This spectacular Candlelight concert is a unique experience you won’t want to miss out on this summer.
There will be two performances on the evening, one at 6:15pm followed by another at 8:45pm. The doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start time.
Note: For the safety of our audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
