What to expect at this soul tribute?
60 minutes of passion and spirit awaits at this soul tribute concert. By combining classics like “Mustang Sally” by Wilson Pickett with more modern hits like Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much”, the show’s setlist explores the deep roots of the genre as well as its more contemporary interpretations. A live band featuring a talented singer will journey through upbeat Motown tunes and Southern soul songs before grooving to funk-infused rhythms. There are also drinks sold on site, so you can sip on a beverage while soaking in all the soul of the evening.
Soul, its story and the show
Soul music was born in the U.S. in the late 1950s. A fusion of gospel, R&B and blues, the genre was invented and nurtured by African-American communities in cities like Detroit and Philadelphia. It’s best defined by its blues-based chords, rhythmic melodies and virtuosic singing (think the complex vocal runs and range of Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye).
While some try to define soul by its history and style, in the end, Ray Charles said it best by describing the genre like “electricity — we don’t really know what it is, but it’s a force that can light a room.” This immeasurable force is on full display at ‘We call it Jazz: Tribute to Soul’. Feel all the feels and jive the evening away while listening to iconic soul songs by legends like Al Green, Otis Redding and many more.
Through sensational live performances and a carefully curated setlist, ‘We call it Jazz: Tribute to Soul’ showcases soul’s deep roots and long-lasting legacy. Each show takes place over the course of 60 minutes and doors open 45 minutes prior to the show start time. Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis in each zone and late entry isn’t permitted, so make sure you get to the venue with some time to spare.
